A great article has just been writen up on Cold Hard Flash about Boulder.....You should check it out. Plus you will get to see some of the shorts by some very talented artists, directors, animators.....Carte de Visite (Paul O' Flanagan), Barbershop (Mick O'Sullivan) and Big Rock Candy Mountain (Ian(Benny)Kenny). http://www.coldhardflash.com
Is was about time I got back to basics with my pencils. It has been so long since I have drawn anything with my trusty pencil. I think a lot of the delay was to do with fear of doing "A Bad Drawing". So I sucked it up and got stuck in. I don't think it is that bad. I'm gonna try from now on and do much more pencil work, get rid of some of that rust I allowed to build up!
Myself and Aido decided to dress as El Tigre and Frida for the Boulder Halloween Party on Friday. We all had a deadly time. There where robots, Ms. Doyles and the milkman, Mucha Wrestlers, Physco Surgeons and even a Scumbag. Fair play to all who dressed up. Ye where deadly!
This is my brother Jonathans dog, George. He is MASSIVE. His one paw is bigger than my head and that is no lie! I'll put up a photo of him compared to my brother it is hilarious.
Shortly after the Emmy nomination my boss asked myself, Paul and Dave if we would like to head over to L.A for the ceremony.....Our answers where, Hell Yeah! Two weeks later after panicing over cocktail dresses and shoes we arrived in Los Angeles.
Myself, Paul,Mike Moon, Dave(Bg God) and Rob in the Disney H.Q the day we arrived in L.A.
After quite a brief encounter with the Red Carpet. This was taken in the Shrine, the venue for the 2007 Emmy's. Sitting down for 4 hours is tough I tells you, tough!
This was the ball afterwards. We where on the upper level looking down on the cheesy rotating jazz band. The bars where all made out of ice. That was pretty deadly!
This is Tammy, Vince, Chiro and Michelle.
and finally the usual crew along with Dave Thomas and Jorge Guitierrez (creator of El Tigre)of Nickeleodeon.
Oh, we never won the Emmy but who cares we where nominated and that meant alot too. The experience was amazing and we got to meet some really fantastic people. We'll just have to go back again and next time WIN!
What is a Scangers favourite pet? A Chi-Whaa-Whaa!
This is the latest addition to the Boulder Blog. The theme was Scangers....To which some people will not know the correct meaning...... SCANGER or skanger is a derogatory term for a stereotypical member of a youth subculture group in Ireland, similar to the chav in the United Kingdom. The stereotypical scanger is known to wear a tracksuit, gold jewellery, a replica football shirt (especially Celtic F.C, athelitic shoes, tattoos, fake Burberry caps, gold piercings, is from a working class area, and speaks with an exaggerated accent. Male scangers tend to have cropped ((Commonly Bleached)) haircuts and drive cars with loud sound and exhaust systems and tend to be called boy racers due to their tendency to drive at speed, Pyjamams, bleached-blonde hair and large hoop earrings are popular with howiyas (females).Scangers have a reputation for anti-social behaviour.
Now, just for all of you interested, here is some super news. Boulder has been nominated for an Emmy. In the category Outstanding Animated Programme (for programming one hour or more). This was for the final episode of Fosters Home for imaginary friends . The episode was called "Good Wilt Hunting". It was great to hear this on Monday morning and it nice to get some recognition for all the hard work. Well done to everybody involved....now lets hope we win!
Here is Fern. Part of The Boulder Blog Theme "Green". I am happy with the turn out but I really have to start working on backgrounds for things. Hope you like!
Hi there. Well, it's all been incredibly exciting here for the last few weeks. We have moved into a new studio right in the centre of Dublin City.....and I mean smack bang in the middle. Today is our first day in the new studio and it is fresh and clean and new and deadly. I really like it anyway! Oh and get this, I was really worried that my two plants would get left behind in the move and mentioned it to one of removal guys and he personally took them down here in his car. Big up to Mr. Removal Man.....your the best!
I have just posted a little picture of myself that I did for AidO))) last week. Seen as I have haven't been posting much I figured I would just slap this up....even if it is of myself. For those of you who don't know me it may be of some entertainment value.
Tis been a while since I have posted anything but sure I have no time to be doing anything but work these days. We are on the last episode of the first season of El Tigre, and the pressure is on. I would be lying if I said I will be glad of the break . Just to mess around with some other little ideas I may have swimming around in my head. They always tend to stay as ideas and never materialise into anything more. Sure we'll see.
This is a wee doodle I did for the Boulder Artblog under the theme Summer Blockbuster 2007. It's Chow Yun Fat from the still to come Pirates of the Caribbean movie.
Eventually it is finished but I missed the deadline by a couple of days. I'm still gonna hijack the boulder blog and stick it in the middle of another theme anyway. This is my Hybrid animal a Unoxicorn, a cross between a fox and a unicorn. Again I'm not too sure if this will count as a unicorn is a mythical creature or is it? This is in memory of railway fox and timid vixen.
It's been a little while since I have posted anything. I've been mad busy in work with El Tigre and another little test I'm doing. I've been trying to get something together for the Boulder Art Blog too and have a piece in the works but it is findiing the time to finish it is almost impossible. The theme is Hybrid animals.....Wuzzles if you like! To be honest I doubt if I get many visitors to my site so for the odd visitor I'll post something soon. Slan.
Jamie Teehan or Teenwolf (umm) ashe likes to be called from time to time, set a two week task for the Boulder artistsgoing with the theme, Eleven/11.....I decided to minus the E from the Eleven and there you go.......Elven.
I have managed, with kind help from Fran to attach links to some amazing artists. Some of which I work with and others that have inspired my own work. So check them all out, I'll keep updating it as I go on but there are so, so many.
This is an image I did of AidO))) on his guitar as you can see. It is an animated piece but he asked me not to put it up until the sound has been put to it, so until then the still will have to do. Thanks Aido your the best!
Ello, ello, ello. As the title of this post suggests I'm sure you get the idea...... I was out with my Mam over the weekend being Easter and all and the fact that I missed my dog Angel, had alot to do with it .I found myself rooting through some of my old sketchbooks, doodles and notebooks which still are kinda cool so I'll try get some of that stuff up on the blog for the laugh.
I have nothing visual to post at the moment but here is a little news flash for those of you following Boulders progress. The show we have been working extremly hard at for the last 6 months or so was launched in the states on Saturday. It is a show for Nickelodeon called 'El Tigre'. The word from the states is that the ratings for the show have never been as high not even for the incredible Spongebob.....Now, how do you like them apples? The show looks great and it makes all the hard work worthwhile.
Finally, I managed to get a little piece of animation up. Surprisingly it wasn't the torture that I thought it was gonna be to upload. Boulder had a little bit of down time many, many, many, many moons ago( I would die for a bit of down time now) and the studio where allowed to do a 10/20sec piece. The brief was pretty open to whatever you wanted. I really enjoyed doing this....so em, enjoy!
Everywhere you look at the moment there are penguins..... So here are some more penguins! Oh,here is a joke I got off a penguin bar in work " Why did the lobster blush? Because the sea weed ". I love penguin bar jokes they are so lame they always make me laugh.
A friend of mine put a very funny description to this picture I had done so I thought I would post it up....... Little white bear nearing his or her explosive end in the vacuum of Space. Could be an analogy of how little time we have in boring vacuous situations. Especialy for an excitable white bear. Or it could be an illustration of bears determination, their ability to hold in oxygen when any other animal, including monkeys and particularly humans would be turned inside out. This would make sense as bears are damned determined. Apparently shooting them only makes them mad, so shooting them into space would probably irritate them even more. I can see this bear pursuing it's prey (Possibly the never before documented inter-galactic fresh space salmon) to another solar system.
Now, for those of you who have never heard of The Burning Man, it is a festival that happens in the Nevada desert in The Black Rock City. For one week of the year people come together to express themselves creatively through art, music and dance. It is a completly non commercial festival and the spirit there is unforgetable. I was lucky enough to have gone there twice as part of an amazing Irish crew called 'The Paddy Mirage'. Here is a photo I took my first year there in 2003. The Temple was created by a man called David Best and built in the sweltering temperatures of the desert by one of the most dedicated crews I have ever met.
Another of David Bests creations, The Party Bus. This would gladly drive you around Burning Man and if you wanted to get off you simply just slid down the slide that was attached to the side and there you go......genius. Imagine this driving down the streets of Dublin!
This is a picture I did of one of my friends Justine, who is a very talented young lady who, at the moment is climbing the corpoarte ladder all the way to the top ! This picture was hugly inspired by an artist called Kirsten Ulve check her out at www.kirstenulve.com. Her work is amazing.
There may be a kind of running theme through my blog for the first while that consists of oddly shaped bears or poor critters with bulbus eyes. They are all pretty simple and quick designs but I enjoy drawing them.
....and welcome to my blog. I'm just getting started with this stuff so bare with me as I was not born with the 'amazing with computers' gene. It's normally a computer malfuntion once I enter the room but I'm trying, so hopefully I will have something nice to show you soon. Fingers crossed.
Hi there, thanks for dropping by. I am an Animation Director with Bouldermedia Animation Studio. We are based in Dublin and have worked with the likes of Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon and Disney. Hope you enjoy your visit!
